The Cattedral of St Sava at Vracar plateau

The idea to build the Cathedral of St. Sava was conceived at the end of the 19th century, when the Metropolitan Michael (Mihailo) and dozens of prominent citizens of Belgrade brought a desision to erect a monument worthy of the founder of the Serbian church, state and literacy – St. sava, and thus in 1895 commemorate 300 years since the burning of St. Sava’s relics at Vračar.
